EMDR - Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing

EMDR is a therapeutic approach originally developed to support individuals who have experienced trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). It has since been adapted to address a broader range of difficulties, including:

  • Processing memories of bullying

  • Past relationship difficulties

  • Distressing or embarrassing life experiences

  • Phobias

Current scope of practice: As I am currently completing my EMDR training, I am not yet able to work with complex trauma, childhood sexual abuse, dissociation, recent traumatic events, or clients with autism spectrum conditions.

How EMDR works

EMDR uses bilateral stimulation—alternately engaging the left and right sides of the brain—whilst you focus on specific difficulties or memories. This stimulation can take various forms, such as guided eye movements, tactile tapping, or auditory tones. The process supports your brain's natural capacity to process and integrate distressing emotions, memories, and physical sensations that may be contributing to current difficulties or maintaining unhelpful patterns.

EMDR is widely accessible and can be delivered effectively both in person and online.
